Love the movie Romancing the Stone with Michael Douglas & Kathleen Turner. After watching the movie many times I was destined to visit Cartagena. In March we went on a trip with friends see Colombia. We spent 3 days in Botoga, 3 days in Santa Marta & 3 days in Cartagena. Bogata is a nice city. I recommend staying at the Sofitel Hotel located in a great area for shopping and dining. Dined at Di Lucca restaurant next door which was fabulous. Security is still a problem with police & dogs located everywhere throughout the city. Santa Marta is a great place to go if you want to hike through Tarona National Park. Our freinds made the hike and saw lots of wildlife. Recommend good insect repellant for they were eaten up by the mosquitos. Cartagena is an old town that is surrounded by a wall since it was built as a fort many years ago to keep the pirates away. There are many narrow streets with lots of shopping, restaurants and fun people to watch. If you have an interest in traveling to Colombia, Cartagena is a must.
