January 2014 we traveled to Borneo Malaysia. Arrived into Kota Kinabalu and stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel. A must see while in KK is to visit the Orangutang Sanctuary that is located about 40 minutes outside of the city. This sanctuary gives you the opportunity to see baby orangutangs being cared for. From KK we flew to Sandakan to stay at the Bilit Rainforest Lodge. There are other nicer lodges that I would recommend, but this one was good if you are into very basic accomodations. During our stay in the rainforest we went on 3 boat rides to see the wildlife. We were very fortunate to see the pigmy elephants, orangutans, horbill birds, greater & lesser fish eagles, long tail macaque monkeys, crocadiles, yellow rink cat snake, silver langur, proboscis monkeys, gray hawk eagles and much more. Be prepared for rain....you are in a rainforest. On our drive back to the airport we stopped at the Gomantong cave. It is very impressive, but gross at the same time. Bird nests are made from bird saliva and these nests are then sold to the Chinese for a lot of money. The chinese believe that drinking a glass of dissolved bird nest saliva every day prevents any ailment/illness. From Sandakan we flew to Kuching. Kuching means cat in Mandarin so it is the city of cats. If you stay in Kuching I highly recommend staying at the Hilton Kuching hotel, by far the best in the city. We left Kuching for a 4 -5 hour drive to Bantang AI to stay at the Hilton Longhouse. During our stay here we went to visit a traditional longhouse that holds 37 families. The Iban Tribe built this tradition many years ago and is still in place to this day. A must see if you are in Borneo. This trip was organized through www.globotours.net and run by CPH Travel that can be reached through their local website of http://www.cphtravel.com.my/
